Nokia 3, the True New Nokia 3310 of Old (photos and videos samples)

Nokia is back and I could not wait to get my hands on one.  Luckily I am based in Russia and Russia was one of the first countries to get the new Nokias.  I went for the Nokia 3 as it is a budget phone, and that appeals to many, and also if the Nokia 3 is great then I am pretty sure that the stronger brothers are also.

Nokia was already realized in Russia, the 5 and 6 on the 15th of June, but I only received mine last night as I did a pre order to get the Nokia 3310 for free!  First day special in Russia.

The first 24 hours has been a great experience, out of the box, I was amazed by the quality of the phone and the look.  Speed wise great and you can see the quality of the front and back cameras, videos and photos at the bottom of the blog.  You will also find a vlog post of my first impressions.

Things I like about this phone is pure android, what a reveal was it, when I received the message while setting up, that my phone noticed all my other pre-installed apps on my old phone (also android), even those placed on the phone by the manuafacter and I was asked if i want to install them or not.  I could not removed them in the past, so it was a no brainer :)  This phone is just pure android, and thats why they most probably cant keep it up to date and secure.  I also really enjoy the screen. High quality and the sound is also great.

Things I do not like about the phone is, like all other phones very open for scretch marks and as the whole front is glass a person really needs good cover for the back and front.
Also and that might seem odd, I would like a slightly smaller screen as it pushes my hand to the limit.

I know that there are a new Nokia 3310 and it looks sweet, but it won't take over the marktet as the 3310 did in the past as it is a bit dated, to be totally honest.

Where the Nokia 3 is a great handset at a great price, and I can see how it can become the smartphone everyone will use in our day and age!

Enjoy!

Skype for Ubuntu 32 Bit Systems Isn't Dead

As of the first of July 2017 Skype 4.3 will not working anymore, but there are a great looking new version of Skype available for us, Linux users. So everything seems to be ok. Yes?  Well not if you have a 32 bit system. As the new Skype is only available for 64 bit systems. Which is very sad. But Skype is not the first one who pulled the plug on 32 bit systems. Google Chrome did the same last year when they stopped supporting 32 bit Ubuntu systems.  And based on the fact that the new Skype is simple a webpage, placed in the form of an app, we might assume that the Skype client is in a way dependent on Chrome.

So. Based on all this info Skype for 32 systems seems to be dead, but Skype also made a web app. web.skype.com which is basically identical to the new Skype version and 32 bit systems can use the web app!  But the web app on Firefox does not support voice calling and video calling, just texting.
But Chromium which is the developer version of Chrome are still being supported on 32 bit Linux systems and video and voice calling works fine on Chromium.

So for 32 bit users you simply have to install Chromium, go to web.skype.com and you will have the same experience than 64 bit users!

For video instructions please look at the video attached. Thank you so much for your time and I hope you found it useful!

Install Fotor on Ubuntu

Fotor is one of my favorite photo editors and if you are not use to it, it is worth trying as it is basically Picasa on steroids.  I know ubuntu Gimp and it is awesome but for many users it can be a bit "daunty" at the beginning where Fotor is simple and easy to use and super powerful.  Fotor is mainly focused for Window and their online editor for long did not work on Ubuntu and other Linux Operating Systems, they have recently made a beta editor which works with is based on HTML5 and its so amazing!  https://h5.fotor.com/

The PR guy at the university where I work as a Sysadmin was totally stoke about it as he made the shift to Ubuntu recently and he used it often, Fotor.

Then I stumble on the offline version the Fotor program for Windows.  I tried to install it with wine on my Ubuntu 16.04 system, did not workm  I tried with Crossover and success!!  But I wanted to find a way to install it for free, and then with a bit of playing around I found a way to install it with Play On Linux, using Wine 2.x and it works beautifully,  here is a video tutorial on how I did it!

Feel free to subscribe my channel for more Ubuntu tips and Linux distro previews and also look at my other channel where I only do voice-overs with my stunning South African accent with a Russian twist! :) -  You can find my channels by following the link to the installation tutorial.
